Rogue Brogues..
I’ve never been a smoker – I have an issue with burning money to ruin my health..give me a strong glass of red instead and I’ll down it in one revelling in the knowledge it’s allegedly good for my heart. It’s pretty much the same with high heels..why spend a small fortune on objects of torture that look better on the page than on my feet?
Which begs the question, why heels? – and if they’re so fabulous, why don’t men wear them too? Are we women trying to prove we’re a more advanced gender because we can?…or is the joke really on us…
And then there was Heelgate at Cannes this year (which happened after the festival organisers had announced it had made efforts to address the gender imbalance between male and female directors) where women were turned away from the red carpet for wearing flats. Of course, that there was ever a heel code was swiftly denied. But they can’t deny it happened...(At the next A-lister-red-carpet-celebrity-fest I’d love to see parades of women in Docs and men in stilettos all proudly strutting their stuff) (What’s the chance of that?)
The truth, as it generally does, comes down to choice – if heels rock your world, pray indulge and gorge on the many wonderous designs available. If flats are your thing, then all these from Rogues may well float your boat.
They’re designed by Katie Harland, who wanted a shoe that was both functional and full of character. She describes them as ‘A love child from the colour and comfort of trainers and the craft and credentials of brogues.’
They’re simply built from 3 pieces of leather with a choice of neon laces.
There’s a slight platform sole in white, a low cut on the ankle and a narrower fit at the toe.
They hit that magical sweet spot of being cross-seasonal, wear with anything for any event…including running for a bus.
The only shoes I now possess are those I can dance in. On that basis…who’s hidden my credit card?

Who can say no to effortless, elegant Parisian chic?
Lemaire is a collective led by Paris-based uber pair Christophe Lemaire and Sarah-Linh Tran who appear to feed off style instead of calories.
Their aim is exceptional everyday clothing heavily influenced by the atmospheric, historical, heady, cosmopolitan mix of Paris.
Expect deceptively simple pieces in modest, natural materials, updated to modern with a different kick and swing. It’s a palette that oozes cool from catwalk to couch.
There’s a sophisticated allure that’s hard to define.
It’s full of evocative elegance with the sense of languid air, white wine spirtzers and hazy, long days watching the world walk by.

Impossible to resist, undeniably covetable…

Sharing…..
Because sharing is caring……let me introduce to a new discovery..the rather magical world of Sugru..
It’s a bit like flubber..you never thought that anyone would ever actually invent it…
It’s a mouldable glue that glues anything and sets within 24 hours..to still remains flexible..
All those dodgy exposed flexes? Sorted.
Plus anything else you care to think of – It’s the ultimate true hero in the fight against the modern disease of built-in obsolescence…
It can cope with hot stuff..
cold stuff..mending cracks in fridges…It’s even dishwasher proof.
And waterproof…
These people can explain more…
But basically the only thing that limits its application……is your imagination…just utterly incredible!!

Cashmere: That hint of luxury associated with both sophistication and artisanal cool.
Now there’s a new label on the fashion block – run by a woman, Marielle, and based in London, Wyse London offers refined classics with a modern edge that really sing.
So simple..but check out the cuffs.
…And the elbow patches..
Or this take on a slouchy well-loved sweatshirt..
The beauty is in the cut, the details…and the price..you can fall, and considering the quality..not be caught by it…they range from £130-150.
I want to do this and eat them up.

Stylishly Street..
Cool has no age limit.
Accessorise Valentino with trainers and a jumper. Good to go.
Roaring back to the eighties..high waisted bleached jeans worn with pride.
The effortlessly hip Sarah Harris.
There’s still room for humour.
And your Grandmothers dress can re-live again.
First impressions…cool..look closer..uber cool..
You remember why you love polka dots.

Mr and Mrs!
A cloudless sky..a balmy day..a beautiful bride..a beaming groom..there’s not much that beats the pure thrilling tide of love a wedding inspires. It’s that pure moment of magic when you get to celebrate a fork in the path of people you love, because they’ve chosen to walk that way together, forever. (Or in this case, dancing, singing…..laughing..)
(Great pic by Kayte Cable!)
The gorgeous bride (naturally) (as your do) MADE HER OWN DRESS. Respect….(I think we can all be proud of the way we have brought her up..she’s a credit to us!)
(Heart-stealer Wilf also stealing Sarah’s limelight)
The service was delivered with suitable grandee gravitas, impeccable diction and great teeth.
Full of the potent force of shared years/drunken forays that make 20 years disappear to re-awaken the past in bright, nostalgic technicolor. Flamboyant, slapstick and joyful with a pearly heat haze of pure charm and happiness.
And then the dancing began!
Spinning, twisting, whirling into the night…
Congratulations you lovely, lovely pair!!!!!!

Brush strokes..
Start praying the suns going to shine tomorrow as we’re celebrating a lovely, joyous, wonderful wedding – happy, happy happy! In preparation of being a good guest and loving some of the styles around at the mo, I’ve booked a session to have my hair poofed at the Braid Bar in Selfridges.
There’s a list of style to choose from (I’m hoping there’s a degree of flexibility…personally I’m less high pressured horsewhip slash warrior woman, more loose artisan meets Heidi’s Grandma-ish type of gal..so I’m a wee bit nervous..)
I’d like gentler..like this.
(Maybe the answer is to go very simple..even hair down..)
There are options of accessories and bits you can have woven in. But they have no appeal – I like those easy styles that look like a fairy with large but nimble fingers has been at work..
The best thing is it’s only £15 and 30 minutes, so if it goes tits up..or it’s a fairy with little fingers..it’s coming out.
I’m ready to rumble…

Summer DIY
The rollercoaster ride of summer is gathering speed..today will be the first day of wearing a summer dress all day long without a coat. Bliss. I would happily wear summer dresses all summer long – they are without doubt the ultimate capsule wardrobe. I did my Atlantique Ascoli check and I have 5 cotton ones…so I’m on the hunt for 2 more to make 7 outfits for the sun ticked off. They’re all I take on holiday now – simply blinged and pimped with jewellery and different shoes for the evening.
I’m also collecting together my summer craft box – a tupperware container with enough bits to while away the magic hours that only appear on holidays, when time seems to get stretched by the sun. Last year we made macrame and friendship bracelets (even Charlie can rustle up a mean macrame)..and I’m sure we’ll make more this year..we got pretty proficient at sewing in chains and all sorts..
This year I’ve found this to add in..all we’ll need to add are a crochet hook, some buttons….
Maybe we’ll finally do a take on this…all I need is time..(and that little bit of child labour)……….
