Layers
It’s almost got to that time of year, well, not quite, but nearly there – it could be just around the corner – and then again, maybe it isn’t. So really it is – transition clothing here we come. And what seems to be singling it more than anything else is layers – new layers, old layers, re-found layers, vintage layers, whether it be retro blouses, snug fitting polo necks or Uniqlo quilted jackets, the shape, the change, the experimentation is where it’s all at.

A joy to behold, is this cultural appropriation, fusion or freedom?
For me it’s the freedom of a cultural fusion of joy. Simples.

Black is the new white..
Despite the prospect of summer round the corner I am surprisingly gripped with the idea of turning our front sitting room into a cocoon of darkness..slate grey, deep navy..something with gravitas. I love the way it makes other colours pop but still wants to hug you close..then the next room, the kitchen a complete contrast: white n wood n marble with floor tiles from the previous post..

Man-spiration..
There’s no way to select life with silver tongs – no matter how much you want something, it doesn’t always happen. But you can always react to it. For instance, the Husband’s work has been a turdstool since forever, with it being even more ridiculous in the last few months and no sign of change. I did suggest we saw this as an opportunity to throw life on it’s head and middle-class caution to the wind and head off in a camper van to the deep, dark unknown.
He said, ‘Seriously Kate…’
And I said,’Yes, seriously..the window of opportunity to take the kids out of school is closing and if we don’t do it soon, we might never be able to..’
‘No, I meant, seriously Kate, who’s mid-life crisis is this?’
So I haven’t got the keys to the camper van just yet, but that hasn’t stopped the constant thoughts of simplicity providing a goldfish loop of white noise in my brain space, whether it’s interiors, clothes, people or life.
Maybe that’s why these outfits are so appealing – they’re not big, brash and laden with special effects.

Just clear and present. Simple.

LFW Street Style x
Street style is about the unexpected – the clothes might’ve existed before, but the combinations probably didn’t: large furry collar, vintage vitamin cardigan, pleated midi skirt and a bowling bag? It’s a cunning mix..
And even if you think the mix is wrong, it’s still exhilarating and liberating to know there are no rules, no requirement to colour co-ordinate.
(Tapered just over the knees and this would be my ideal dress. Sigh)
Every body, each story is different and the outfit is tailored to respond to the individual and what they want to say.
And so a picture becomes a quick chat in the corridor.

It’s that fantastic clash of sophistication and slightly out of order. Bring it on!

Liberty’s, lushness and London x
I am a great believer in feeding the visual mind so I make little forays into London whenever I can, which lets face it, isn’t exactly a hardship…one of my favourite haunts is the lovely Liberty’s…
A temptation trove of delights and beautiful displays.
Love these candles – you lift up the domes and smell the scent caught in the tops of the glass. J’adore the whole styling/everything – like something out of Hogwarts…
Check out the fabulous names and descriptions..
Clever mind-confusing scent??…brilliant!
Interested to see this label as they blazed a trail for us – they started with just 8 silk shirts. Now look.
Very simple, very elegant, easy to dress up or down. Timeless.
Liberty’s – everything we aspire to be – beautiful inside and out.
When in London always look up.
A couple of minutes walk away through Soho is Beyond Vintage..well worth a browse.
Finished off with a well deserved coffee in one of the many boutique coffee shops
And a final browse round the market stalls..
