There’s something rumbling in the air: Apparently Isabel Marant opted out of sharing her pre-season pictures with anyone until as late as possible. She said it was less to do with the threat of copying than over exposure – ‘There’s just too much stuff’. A notion that is starting to infiltrate and seep through the runway shows at New York fashion week…It’s becoming too obvious, too controlled..and the designers – crowned icons of creativity – are starting to rebel and explore other avenues to present their collections. It’s about time.
Rosie Assoulin presented her collection at the Meatpacking District (I like her thinking) with her usual chutzpah and personal style.
She sees a hemline and moves it up further… a gather becomes a statement.
A simple stripe is now a conversation of pattern and geometrical possibilities.
Exposure is about dreams, not exploitation.
Extravagance, strength and femininity all simply and elegantly pulled together with beautiful tailoring.

Now a stalwart of fashion week, she’s still a breath of fresh air.
And I love her candles.

Champagne For Rosie x
Rosie Assoulin and her Resort 2015 Collection is a bridge between the fast fashion of the street and the up in the clouds pedestal of high couture: An addict who willingly embraces everything around her, it does seem incredible she’s only been around for a year.
Rather than designing for a particular person in mind, you get the feeling her Collections reflect who she is (boarder shorts included) which we then want to buy into.
She has a magic touch with volume: How it happens is not the same as saying why it works, but ease of movement plays an important part, as does beautiful fabrication.
The cut of the sleeve..beguiling temptation…
Utterly wearable humour.
Rafia made posh, even with a baseball cap.
She’s a woman: Bra strap not a problem.
Her recognisable signature – sculptural elements, pleats, stripes and colour are all worked through.
Oh to see this at the oscars..
If I had to choose one time it would be this cape – The perfect addition to an evening out, covering that moment when you look at your array of coats and realise goosebumps are the only way to go…or to just to throw over a stripy top and a pair of jeans for a thrilling trip to the playground..
Effortless cool-girl-grace.

Coming up Roses..
I am a speck of dust hanging gently in the air as I breathe in the expectation of this Collection: Rosie Assoulin AW14, eager to get close to the flame.
Waiting to feel that magic touch of satisfaction.
She doesn’t disappoint: She has a knack of designing wearable hyper-potent scene stealing pieces that ooze cool glamour like a smoking tea infused cocktail.
This I would happily waft the rest of my days in. Rolled up and poshed with kitten heels or laid back with white sneakers.
There are more pieces in this Collection than SS14 and (as Julius Caesar flashes neon in my mind) it’s not all perfect, but I tell myself: Don’t linger on the negatives…and I love the trousers.
There’s always a reference to the classics but then the heat gets turned up with unexpected references and clever tailoring.
Until I find myself dancing in a light and sun-drenched land, where puddles are figments of the imagination and umbrellas are objects of curiosity…

Insouciance Celebrated x
Rosie Assoulin is the new darling on the fashion block and it’s easy to see why with her first 2014 Resort Collection. More cunning, less solemn with a louche swagger that leaps off the page and into the first passing wardrobe..
I could wear this, knock people’s socks off and still eat lunch. Result.
Sharp timing, yet oodles of time.
Block colours with contrasting avant-garde shapes. Unconventional, succulent and impressively chic..it’s a joy to see that sexy doesn’t have to equal fitted to within an inch of respiration. Case in point..but topical..the women tennis players at Wimbledon..
Beautiful, fit girls in their prime…wearing figure hugging clothing that reflects back every lump, bump and bra-strap…loose is imagination..even slightly loose is an optical illusion in progress.
Give me a secret hint that impresses with personality and promise any day of the week.
