David Bowie x
RIP David Bowie, the man who’s gone to heaven.
Hot tracks, cool suits, he was the slipstream where art and narrative collided.
I met him many moons ago as a film extra – we chatted over a chicken sandwich whilst having our hair highlighted together..he would eventually cut my throat. Not many people can say that..
The Picasso of pop and an enigma to the end: A superstar that, in a news crazy world where titbits are commodity and nothing is sacred, managed to keep his illness a secret and death a shock. Utter respect.

Now for the reveal…..all the wallpapers were from Graham and Brown – not a company featured much in the interior design world glossies. But many of the concepts here are visually similar to their posher counterparts: Honolulu palm versus Palm by Cole and Son, Capulet teal versus Hermes jardin d’osier, tudor houses versus Fornasetti. But their price point? Nothing here was over £20..and some of them were as low as £7.50 per roll…check it out:
One = Honolulu palm green for £20 per roll.
Two = Desire gold for £8.50 (in the sale) or £17 per roll
Three = Marvel action hero for £10 per roll
Four = Juan white for £7.50 per roll

Makes you think: Where does the beauty lie?

Vingil x
It’s spotlight time for Xenia Kigaeva from Russia and her label Vingil. Think stratospheric cosy knit factor, deep depth of richness and texture and a visceral resonance with the season.
She graduated in costume design. Does it show?
They are the pinnacle of defence against the dark arts of winter. Just accessorise with wellies and a large dog.

Uber Uterque x
If I have a complaint against the modern life it’s the way technology has made the world spin faster, shrink smaller and generalise everything. Which is why one should dismiss Uterque with a simple flick of a hand: It’s part of the Spanish-rule-the-world Inditex which has chains such as Zara and Pull and Bear in it’s growing claws. Except I like it.
There’s sleek separates, a touch of artisanal cool and even the trend pieces of the season look fresh and modern.
Of course it helps if Caroline de Maigret is your muse.
It’s a salient lesson in not throwing the babes out with the bathwater.

LFW Street Style x
Street style is about the unexpected – the clothes might’ve existed before, but the combinations probably didn’t: large furry collar, vintage vitamin cardigan, pleated midi skirt and a bowling bag? It’s a cunning mix..
And even if you think the mix is wrong, it’s still exhilarating and liberating to know there are no rules, no requirement to colour co-ordinate.
(Tapered just over the knees and this would be my ideal dress. Sigh)
Every body, each story is different and the outfit is tailored to respond to the individual and what they want to say.
And so a picture becomes a quick chat in the corridor.

It’s that fantastic clash of sophistication and slightly out of order. Bring it on!

Style Icon x
Carla Sozzani, a truly remarkable woman.
An italian, born in 1947 she was a longtime fashion editor at Vogue and Elle before spreading her wings into writing books, staging exhibitions, retail and design.
In 1990, she opened Galleria Carla Sozzoni at 10 Corso Como, Milan. Originally a vacant garage, it was intended only as an exhibition space, now it houses a bookstore, fashion and design store, roof garden, hotel and cafe and is a true cultural sanctuary.
In collaborations with others, there are now three other 10 Corso Como’s in the world, in Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai.
She says she got into retail through the editors desire to communicate, to share and get feedback. ‘I cannot please everybody, but it is important to have one eye.’

Sozzani dresses in a simple way, functional, yet full of character. There’s a sense of permanent calm at the heart of a storm. Happy in her own skin, with strong personal integrity, she knows what she likes and shines with contentment and understanding.
Rare combinations.

Comedy Stitches x
The brain is a strikingly stretched muscle that sometimes doesn’t want to…hence the gut appeal no-brainer of these back to school beauties from Skinny Dip London: Nostalgic for some, hip for others and pleasantly pleasing on the pocket for all.
Yep. They’re Anya Hindmarch rip offs.
Yep. The bags aren’t leather.

But this is flash-in-the-pan fashion, best bought before it’s sell by date at a discount rate. When it goes..it goes…
