Jennifer Fisher x
Like the lights, Jennifer Fisher’s jewellery first caught the eye because of it’s soft detailing and gently rolling inspiration. Simple but substantial.
But it was her charms that really caught the eye: fun, rocking icons of joy.
They’re on the lust list for when my boat comes in.

Light touch x
Light mood, sunny day, perfect design.
Made with the absence of hype.
And silence is such a rare commodity.

But these lights don’t need the bluster.
Enjoy.

Just do it x
There are so many things in life that we accept without questioning. Like swimwear.
Since the days of Bridget Bardot the bikini has represented power to women in a media hyped objectified way that has ultimately resulted in the cult of Kim Kardashian. Aren’t we lucky.
But maybe there’s a different path. I spotted one of these at my local pool last week and thought wow!
Not worn for the beach but worn for purpose because it works and makes life easier.

Can’t go swimming because you’re concerned about your bikini line? Problem sorted. Just swim.

Miss L Fire x
If I need a charismatic pair of shoes to wear all day, Miss L Fire is the first port of call.
Sit up on a coffee stool watching the world go by, curl up like a cat under a tree or paint the town red, these are the shoes that dance on the inside.
Because they’re time honoured show girls.

Synchronise Watches..
Charlie has a joint eighth ‘survival’ birthday on the Common tomorrow (I’ll be doing my sun dance once I’ve written this) (and stocking up on paracetamol/large flagons of alcohol). I saw these army characters in Poundland and thought candle holders!
It could all go horribly wrong – I couldn’t find my glue gun this morning so have resorted to carpet glue which promises to glue plastic if you leave it to cure long enough….
We’ll see…..

Somethings are meant to go together – bread and butter, Kate and John, gloves..earrings. So what do you do if one goes missing?

If you’re artists Lauren Sagar and Sharon Campbell you turn them into a work of art – The Chandelier of Lost Earrings.

It’s a concept of multiple layers – the power of many, making something out of nothing, the transformative power of change. More than 3,000 earrings were donated by people who wanted to be part of the project originally linked to St Mary’s maternity hospital in Manchester.

Along with earrings, letters and stories were attached from each donation.
Collectively it’s a jewel of a piece.
I’m just glad they never considered socks.

Flashback x
They say the true cycle of fashion is thirty years. It seems a lot quicker than that to me…but maybe that’s because time is slipping through my fingers at an ever increasing rate. I can certainly remember this micro-trends first outing back in the eighties. The key then was vintage, naturally well-worn ripped mens’ 501s with classic black fishnets and either DMs or pointed flats.
(As someone who knows: The larger meshes and little toes never mix. Soz).

Make it x
Remember these beauties? For me a hark back to the eighties but the concept must actually be a lot older. I was looking for something to naturally moth proof wardrobes and drawers when inspiration dawned. A quick check on Ebay proved invaluable..they still existed and this little lot were bought in a bulk buy. The relative quiet of half term was the perfect time to renovate their little interiors..
Some of them had beautiful vintage labels that we managed to gently peal away.
Lots of the pomanders had a blingy gold loop so grosgrain ribbon has to be an upgrade. We found the easiest way to replace this was to feed both ends of the ribbon in through the top and pull them through with a pair of tweezers.
You need to pull the two ends through leaving as little ribbon as possible on the top. We found the tweezers used as a brace was a wise thing to do. Then just knot ends together and pull the loop back out again.
After attempts with funnels, the best way to fill the pomanders was with a little jug. We used lavender and essential oils.
For those pomanders missing their bottoms we cut out discs from vintage material and simply glued them on.
Strangely satisfying with a definite whiff of pure nostalgia. To be recommended.
