Not into rubbish? How about re-cycled? – It’s the present that keeps on giving.

Remember Granby? They haven’t stopped evolving since winning the Turner Prize last year.  Even better, much of what they do totally feeds into the Future Candy trend – that perfect sweet spot of imperfection.

Baby loves!

They are the pajamas you’ve always wanted to wear.  Cotton, cut to a manly shape with prints so good they can’t be legal.  In fact Desmond and Dempsey pjs have it all –  and other than Mr Right naturalment, would make the perfect bed partner for Christmas morning.

Interestingly the men don’t have the same wild, intoxicating options: These are as funky as it gets.  So you may want to do as Charlie and buy from the girls section – would make a change…

Spare Room part 2

e1d9e902e840497fed7a522dc1243390

Bedside tables are a great richness in a small space.  They’re the earrings of a bedroom, framing the focal point as well providing great function…and I need to chose a pair for the spare room.

dbd8a1a599f191bd0f58e4619d516ad6

If money was no object I’d be pulled, without fail, to the antique option: Timeless, chic, classic (but they’d be a little (big) voice in my head whispering but where would you put your cup of morning tea??) (fitted glass on the top for protection?)(would it be enough??)

7feb8b8649c50c972e2e2ac8bca97549

And besides, modern designs can work:  There’s a sense of simplicity and space to them – an avoidance of clutter where less is more.

If your bed is your nest, as mine is, then taking a leaf out of hospital design could be the way to go.  Wouldn’t it be nice if someone made a brass version of this with hidden wheels in the base and maybe a marble top?

Love the function here, but the mdf style presentation?  Needs to be better.

But this is a super clever idea for those with a thin, narrow bedroom. Genius.

An interesting picture:  The colours, the velvet, the sheepskin all draw the eye in.  The mirrors add that touch of glamour..

b867dc944ccb72707fbdae168e51f2cd

And then you see this photo and realise how much better the proportions balance when the mirrors are smaller than the headboard:  Little things.

71b1d97710bbdb7ce0e45c130f066a4a

And as I only have a little space……I’m thinking an old fashioned wall sconce might be just the thing: Cheap, simple, effective. Maybe with a smaller mirror above them.

Or even use a pair of upcycled corbels…

Watch this space.

Mochi x

There are many kinds of happiness in the world..I’ve just spent an utterly lazy, child-free weekend with the husband that I refuse to regret as I look aghast at the weeks to-do list, slightly lower down that list of love is my passion for beautiful embroidery and textiles..which is all the more ring-starred when it can be married to intelligent, bridging the distance fashion.

Mochi is a brand whose identity lies deep in the love of ancient embroidery and needle craft.  It was set up by Palestinian Mochi Ayah Tabai to produce visually stunning, wearable clothes that celebrate world-wide stitching communities.

Handcrafted by local artisans in their own countries, Mochi isn’t a melting pot of ideas but an acknowledgement of what each culture has to offer, from Jaipur, Palestine, Thailand, Uzbekistan to Hungary, all items produced are claimed under their own makers.

They appeal to my love of the past, of inherent quality and the deep vein of romanticism I have running though my middle.

6919e36881b95bf29832084b6d67d5fdIt’s a refreshing change from the polyester re-runs of the high street…we can have more, pay less and think we’re clever…or we can just put up our hands and say what we really love.

Holly go brightly..

Main staircase to Goethe Institute Princes Gate | Architect: Sir Charles James Freake |

Today marks the last Monday of term and school prize day – a day to avoid if ever there is one.  I swore last year, after three hours of clapping in heavy, muggy heat that I would never go again – and that was after the mornings two hour session.  But, there’s no emotional escape from the kids need to know you’re there..in world economics it’s a price too high to pay not to go, so it’s time to slap on the smile and don the nonchalance for one more time. I’ll be sitting there, checking out the colour combinations and trying to work out why some things work that really shouldn’t..and the reverse.

Nostalgic and a bit sentimental: I’m after a pair of wedge espadrilles with ties this summer.  I’d love them to be in a deep navy blue, but I suspect black is more realistic.

8659a643b28d824a09c70ab2236d6eb4

With just that little bit of extra height, they give an outfit the potential to carrying on strutting straight into a decadent night on the tiles.

As well as being highly adaptable (also great with culottes or skinnies) they’re supremely comfortable and, with a bit of shopping around, easy on the pocket.
