Clothes List x
Weather update in London: Drab, grey, definitely cooler than December but still not cuttingly cold – not a true frost to be seen, instead lots of rain, puddles and mud. It’s when I miss the twinkling lights of Christmas and long for spring – which is still a good six weeks away.
Clothes are still transitional – I wore my big winter jumper for the first time today, but that’s probably more because we have no heating as the boiler is being moved. To go out, all I needed was a light wool jacket – which sums up the weirdness of a winter that’s never progressed: It’s a time of mashing up opposites – skinny jeans with giant cardigans, long wool coats with no socks….floaty skirts and enormous jumpers.

Just keep a brolly handy.

Street style is about the unexpected – the clothes might’ve existed before, but the combinations probably didn’t: large furry collar, vintage vitamin cardigan, pleated midi skirt and a bowling bag? It’s a cunning mix..
And even if you think the mix is wrong, it’s still exhilarating and liberating to know there are no rules, no requirement to colour co-ordinate.
(Tapered just over the knees and this would be my ideal dress. Sigh)
Every body, each story is different and the outfit is tailored to respond to the individual and what they want to say.
And so a picture becomes a quick chat in the corridor.

It’s that fantastic clash of sophistication and slightly out of order. Bring it on!

Creature Comforts x
It feels horribly unfair that summer in the UK is already slipping away over the horizon, but this week has heralded non-stop torrential rain and the unearthing of boots and jeans.
Normally, there’s a tipping point in late summer when the weak sunshine, falling leaves and hit of frost take on a tantalising sense of expectation for soft layers and roaring fires..but not in August. Not before terms even started..
But it seems that we’re in serious transition..that time when bare legs get mixed with big cardies and upper halves look like winter, whilst below is still hopeful for sunshine.
A time to look ahead for some serious wardrobe planning.

Of course, I’m still praying for an Indian summer..but I’ve lived here for too long not to be prepared: 80s mohair cardigan and long, lace-up boots, here I come…

Stylishly Street..
Cool has no age limit.
Accessorise Valentino with trainers and a jumper. Good to go.
Roaring back to the eighties..high waisted bleached jeans worn with pride.
The effortlessly hip Sarah Harris.
There’s still room for humour.
And your Grandmothers dress can re-live again.
First impressions…cool..look closer..uber cool..
You remember why you love polka dots.

Super street style x
It’s the little things that make the street style photos of fashion week so fascinating..the glint of an unusual piece of jewellery sparkling in the sun, a plait of hair coiled like a blonde horsewhip on a cashmere shoulder..or just a casual chic humour that brings an outfit together in a shower of golden sparks..
This year is the celebration of the unexpected..like a jumper dress with tights, socks and trainers..
A soft, black, leather bow..
Glasses that smile back..
Chic shearling with buckles and straps.
A piece of gold and a flash of pink.
This one is specially for Dievca..

Awesome earrings and a palette of grey.
Sometimes it good to stand outside the circle.

Food for Thought..
Banana Republic Fall 2015 is the faultless streetstyle collection of NYFW.
It’s the Collection for the realities of life: Meeting friends, the school run, a trip to the shops..a quick snap from the paps…it’s normcorm coolness personified..
And maybe that’s where I have my itch, my first wobble of a potential problem, hard to hold back and impossible to shake off..
I love the stripe. But think too deeply and this collection becomes an unsettling vision..like a serpent eating it’s own tail. We have fashion..we have street style..now we have fashion that is street style and because it’s so perfectly of the moment, there’s no sense of pushing boundaries or striving for the next artistic step.
It’s not that I don’t like it..I really, really do..and look – metallics and tassels again..

It’s faultless, flawless, impeccable – and feels like it’s been squeezed and prodded into life by a profit driven corporate machine…to produce the opposite of anarchy.
The truth is fashion has to sell, but it fundamentally has to walk hand in hand with creativity: We need a heart..but we need a soul too.

Fashion Story x
In the focaccia bunfight of fashion, how is true style evaluated and who wins the cherry on the top?
We know sometimes less is more..
That it’s thinking out of the box..that magic moment when perfectionists take risks..
Finding that rare sweet spot moment when it takes brains and a perverse delight to play a swaggering fool. When you aren’t.
Elegance and body language is in the mix..
And it’s not about money..
Style isn’t beauty, it’s perfectly picked proportions.
That fine, hazy line between victim and genius, because there’s no beauty without strangeness.

Fashion is conforming to current styles and trends.
Style is throwing them out of the window.

China Town x
On Saturday I took the kids plus Bella’s bestie to explore the delights of China Town in London. Charlie, freed from the constraints of school uniform opted for a cunning combination of shorts over jogging trousers..
Accessorised with a pink umbrella..
That was until he spotted this tiger hat..
Not that he didn’t fit in..the place was buzzing..
And tigers were a trend..
It’s not long till Chinese New Year and all the shops were red, vibrant and humming with life and such a variety of whacky and wonderful stuff that blew the kids minds. They spent their pocket money on dresses, silk pajamas, paper dragons, fortune cookies and fans..
Checking out the weird and grotesque in the restaurant windows.
Charlie, being Charlie..as only Charlie can be..with his fan..
We looked at the Chinese supermarkets..so worth a wander..
Before stopping for a conventional drink and a bite to eat. Hot chocolate with cheese and onion crisps anyone??
Charlie was more interested in doing peacock impressions..
Looking at our purchases to offer an unsuspecting Daddy..frogspawn juice was a bit of a fav..
And how have we survived this long without a can of Kickapoo?…
The girls came back to change into their dresses and choreograph a fan dance..
Charlie wasn’t going to be outdone..
A slug of kickapoo later..
And it was sword dancing!
