Mouse House x
The idea of little shops for mice was first started by Anonymouse – a Swedish Artists collective whose first piece of mouse street art was a restaurant in Malmo. The idea has since been taken up by others across the world. Built with dedication, skill, time and humour they exist for the pure wonder and escapism their existence produces; a little bit of imagination made real.

Style Icon: Zoe Kravitz x
Maybe it started with knowing which kitchen you loved in Big Little Lies; for me, it was always Bonnie’s warm welcoming one…and so it started, because although Zoe Kravitz was just playing a part, part of her natural soul was on show too: the piercings, the tatts, an effortless grace. And then there was her singing the Elvis Presley cover of ‘Don’t’ in the final episode of season 1. I still have it saved to a play list on Spotify…
Authentic, honest and holding a space in the world that is all her own.

Majeda Clarke x
Part of the surprise of life is what captures the eye and why; I suspect there was an unconscious element of appeal for writing this post – I’ve just finished Circe by Madeline Miller, a book grounded in the love of the Greek myths and gilded in gold. Circe has her own loom, made by the legendary Daedalus from sweet smelling cedar, a combination to delight the senses even in the imagination. Majeda Clarke is also a weaver of magic, she says ‘There is something abut the act of making cloth by hand that connects me to a long line of weavers through history who have sat in from of a loom. It is an ancient tradition that is vanishing in a world of mass production and manufactured perfection.’ Her textiles are a celebration of colour, craft and creation.
Majeda also weaves delicate, cobweb like muslins.

Charlie boy..
It was two years ago I wrote this post about my Charlie. To briefly re-cap it was to honour his sense of self and lack of inhibitions, particularly when it came to clothes..but I wondered how long it would last – there’s a big difference between 5 and 7. However I believe the photo above: Charlie holding a shell he found himself on an exploration round a rocky headland whilst illustrating his love of a fine sarong proves that nothing has yet changed..
He’ll happily have flowers in his hair..
Or braids. (When the girls had their hair braided..so did Charlie..)
When we did a wander around Covent Garden and Soho, to both find the BFG dream jars..and do a sneaky vintage shop trawl. All Charlie wanted was his own bow tie!
We did another shop, getting ready for the new term…he chose and black felt cap with ears (which he then wore to the Oval for the England v Pakistan test match)
A bag with pink tassels, a polka dot shirt and a sheepskin lined embroidered jacket..
All from Zara girl! (far better colours than the boys section I was told)
I think he’s going to be OK – they haven’t subverted him yet!
Long may it last!

Raw Talent x
Jessica Kramer is my new arthouse-slash-fully-fledged-rockstar (of the jewellery kind) and the maker/owner of Hawkhouse. She’s been a wanderer and traveller, soaking up the sights and sounds of six of the seven continents of the world before love made her drop anchor or as she says ‘Wild woman falls in love with island boy and signs up for Etsy’. Her story and all it’s wonder is ingrained in her pieces.
Her works are frank and forthright without the slightest glint of superficiality, just pure natural beauty shining through.
There’s a visceral feeling of groundedness (is that a word??) straight talking and sincerity.

Designer prices? No – everything, even the uncut emeralds above are around the £40 plus shipping; This is outside the brain boil of mainstream madness, brand and oneupmanship, here it’s honesty and integrity that take centre stage and run straight through the middle of every single piece.
Just simply inherently cool.

If I see something I like that flutters the gut I follow the trail back to see if it was a one off or a true love. Sometimes there’s only time to scribble a name down..then tracking it down is a bit like a treasure hunt wondering what will turn up. So it was with Joie – a name in my notebook, a diamond in the dust.
What first caught my interest were the shirts with their easy nonchalance and natural grace.
In many ways similar to Zadig and Voltaire except more accessible, less edgy. Although much of that is the contrast of styling. Look at Joie as individual items rather than a whole look and it would be easy to add the urban edge.
Made with quality materials, there’s nothing faddy – they’re the type of pieces that will live on in the wardrobe, adapting and morphing with the times.
Smoothly integrated, wearable, honest.
Key pieces painted in broad strokes.
With a joy of simplicity.
I could say I didn’t like it. But it would be a lie.

Temptation..
I fail. I’m happy to hold up my hands and admit defeat..I know I’m meant to be buying presents for other people..but please tell that to the little bits of gorgeousness that keep falling into my lap crying Buy me! Buy me!..like these earrings..
They’ve been on my lust list since forever (OK. I lie, but I did have a photo of them squirrelled away) and then – like everything else I’ve always wanted – I trip over them just when I’m at my most stretched (bah humbug)…but HOW could I resist? They’re such a subtle, fun take on the eponymous ear cuff…I love how the back of the earring has been used to make the letters appear suspended..clever, clever, clever..
And then there was this little pair that caught my eye at the same time..wouldn’t it be fun to wear the ‘love’ in one ear and the ‘kiss’ in the other? Wouldn’t it?!
(Does it help if I say they both came to £7.00 with postage? www.sirenlondon.com – I recommend a check out)
But just imagine them in gold..with a diamond…sigh.
But if that was the case..there’s no way they’d be on their way to me now…gotta be grateful for small mercies..even naughty ones…
