Statement x
Upstairs, in the furthest cupboard, I have some vintage clothes stored away for the day when Bella wishes to experiment. In amongst them is a full length chocolate brown velvet single breasted coat with the sort of split up the back that made you feel like a swash buckling highway man when walking down a street. The decadence of the material felt such a statement of the times, it was hard to see it having a real purpose again.

But there is a point of view that says when the world is going to the dogs, party like there’s no tomorrow….

Never have winter coats been so exciting or offered such a visual treat – wear black all season, and you’ll still make a statement. Gone is military uniformity, symmetry and blending and say hello to loose cuts, colour and freedom of expression.
But be prepared for the odd gem that’s breaks the rule…

Because this year, there are no rules…

Wow!
The power of the written word..
Centre Half: Scarf
Friday marks midsummer. Try telling that to the clouds, the rain, the wind and the temperature. It’s the pay back and karma for last summer. But it still hurts. Maybe that’s why I’m loving the colour, the fluidity and the fun of men wearing silk scarves.

It just brightens the day.

Summer showers x
The weather is still strange here, if the sun shines it’s getting warm, but we can have sudden cold carrying squalls arriving from nowhere. In the evening, no matter how blue the sky has been, the temperature is still dropping away steeply. It means the transitional wardrobe is in full swing with the similar layers of winter, except they are lighter and looser: cotton instead of wool, silk instead of cotton, bare feet and summer colours…

Oh for the days summer simplicity..

Trend 1 x
We spent a few days in the brilliant city of Bristol over Easter, enjoying the street food and vintage shops. I was truly surprised by what caught my wandering eye – an electric/purple blue Hawaiian shirt for fifteen squids. It stopped me in my tracks with visions of pairing it with a loose navy suit with sleeves rolled up eighties style and a loose but narrow pair of 3/4 length trousers. It was vivid and powerful and sadly not shared by my two children who dragged me away.

But I think it has legs.

Sweet style x
My jeans are dying. Worn through on places where holes equal a problem. I know what I’ll replace them with: You can’t improve on perfection and for me, vintage mens 501 Levis will always hit the sweet spot. But that doesn’t mean I can’t indulge in some brain boosting denim porn, particularly as size and styling can make all the difference between blend in to simply sublime…
Delish.
