I’m enjoying the intrigue of the public versus the publicity..since the inner circle of secrecy of the Collections was broken by the unrepentant and immediate exposure on the internet, all attendees are touched by magic dust too and have become ‘models’ in their own right, their pictures just as sought after..

And what’s more important? Looking at what the people are wearing today, this moment..or concentrating on something you won’t be able to see or hold for another 6 months?

The internet, digital cameras, streaming..the Collections are out there before you can blink and dancing in cyberspace. But they’re out of date. Even if it’s a future date.

The 6 month time delay seems to only work for printed media, giving them time to plan articles and editorials…but how relevant are the mags now?

And the time certainly gives the High Street a heads up to replicate ideas and bleed the genuine talent dry.

Rosie Assoulin is the new darling on the fashion block and it’s easy to see why with her first 2014 Resort Collection. More cunning, less solemn with a louche swagger that leaps off the page and into the first passing wardrobe..
I could wear this, knock people’s socks off and still eat lunch. Result.
Sharp timing, yet oodles of time.
Block colours with contrasting avant-garde shapes. Unconventional, succulent and impressively chic..it’s a joy to see that sexy doesn’t have to equal fitted to within an inch of respiration. Case in point..but topical..the women tennis players at Wimbledon..
Beautiful, fit girls in their prime…wearing figure hugging clothing that reflects back every lump, bump and bra-strap…loose is imagination..even slightly loose is an optical illusion in progress.
Give me a secret hint that impresses with personality and promise any day of the week.

What do you see?
I’ve been reading a great deal lately on the pros and cons of the Dove Real Beauty ad campaign..Does it represent a significant change in advertising by re-defining the unrealistic ideals regarding the way women should look?..Or is it a cynical reinforcement of the same old message that beauty is the most important asset for a women to have?
Personally, I can’t help but feel it’s an attempt at blue sky thinking by driven, claustrophobic, muttering male advertising execs who see it as an opportunity to make money by taking a ‘supporting’ stand.
Particularly when you compare the sugar coated rhetoric of the Dove ads, to the genius take it or leave it campaign for Karen Walker’s sunglasses based on the inspirational ladies from Ari Seth’s Advanced Style Blog.

I wish we could see more advertising like this with no pretence, no underlying message other than rich visual flair, charisma and exuberance – this subject shouldn’t really be a blog post, just like the Dove ad shouldn’t really be a Blog post.. but until advertisers stop religiously peddling youth as the only currency that sells, with beauty as it’s alter-ego then campaigns such as Karen Walker’s will just be brilliant flashes in the pan.
Until then, all I know is I want a little bit of what they’re having for no other reason than I think they are awesomely super cool…I think I have a crush..

Like ducks in a firing range the great and the good stepped out last night for the Met Gala Ball to celebrate the opening of Punk: Chaos to Couture Exhibition. What joy! there was no place to hide – you either nailed it, failed it..or demonstrated you never really had it…I swear with that title it was always going to be the perfect blood sport…let the games commence..
The New York Magazine cover that never was. Shame.
Biggest surprise of the night?
Anne Hathaway in Valentino! Blonde and rocking it.
Could easily have done a ‘Gwyneth’..but so doesn’t.

New York Fashion Week in the Snow
I’ve been looking at all the pictures coming in of New York in the snow..
And between you and me, I’m a thinking that snow and fashion just don’t mix…
But hey – it’s Fashion Week! It’s New York! It’s an inspirational combination!
Except something is nagging in the back of my mind, a niggling, whispering, wicked little voice saying this just isn’t right…. isn’t normal, isn’t human…
I’m loving the style…but tell me, do you hand your skirt over at the cloakroom? And is that before or after you’ve floated there because if you can walk in those heels lady, I’m a pink leprechaun with purple spots, even without the snow…
Ladies, tres tres chic…but please,Why isn’t your pristine fur covered in clinging wet slush? Your tights ripped – your knees gashed? Your bottoms blue?
I love it!…but I have to ask – don’t your toes get cold?
You left in a hurry…but it’s not worth getting hyperthermia for…just put them on.
And socks, add socks..
You too – I’ll actually be able to see your feet turning blue. You can wear gloves? So why not something decent for your poor feet?
These could either be a rare pair of socks. Or an extreme form of fashionista gangrene.
I look…I like…I think inevitable banana skins…
Bet these looked good in the shop. A nice, warm shop. A dry shop. With thick piled carpet to stride on without a care in the world…
My ultimate wish:
1. To be a fly on a wall to see if these people can actually move. Safely. In a dignified manner. More than 2 feet.
And
2. If they can shuffle walk – To be magically enhanced with whatever biological gene/super power they have that I am certainly lacking. Snow or no snow.
