Bling ring..blinking good
As a self confessed free wheeling fashion conscious omnivore with a ravenous appetite for design I ate up this delicious teal ring as worn by Mila Kunis in the April edition of Marie Claire.
Mila’s not bad either…
Sigh. I took on the exquisite pain of trying to find out who designed it…but so far no banana. The best I could come up with were these from Dior..

And these from Chanel – don’t you just want to stroke them? lick them?!
And the last three are vintage 70s rings..
I’m not too hot on trophy purchases – but give me one of these and I would purrrrrrr!

LOOK!!
So excited!!! – These are four of the summer dresses we have been working on over the past few weeks…Normally all the ‘developing collection’ pics are posted on our ‘latest MasonBentley page’..but I think these deserve a little more limelight..
The nostalgia of these dresses is in the magic of re-discovery…the basic patterns have all been taken from vintage dresses – and then re-worked so none of the character is lost but there is an added attitude or ease of wearability (i.e. zips in easy places) to reflect our modern day living. The pictures below show the dresses primarily in the pale taupey beige broiderie anglais which is a gorgeous colour but we also plan to do them in white and black..and there is a winter version of the Valentina in the pipeline…
The dresses were all designed with different body shapes in mind..spot the one to suit you..I hope you like!
This is the Valentina. Dress up or dress down. Perfect for an English summer wedding when you can’t rely on the sun. Or put on a pair of flip-flops and head out to the shops..
This is the Billie. It’s simplicity and ease of movement is a joy – it will look good no matter how high the temperature rises… a pair of wedges, large sunnies and a straw bag and you are good to go. The belt can also be worn to the front with a large bow – Anna is just improvising without the official belt in this pic..but note the shape to the hem to show a flash of leg – the split and the curve – J’adore.
The Grace. Youthful, elegant, fresh. Dress up for dinner..or just wear on a summers day to pick up the kids from school.. feel a million dollars…the ‘dress’ has to be the ultimate capsule wardrobe. Full stop. No faffing with what goes with what – it’s on..and you’re off…
The Bergman. A hint to Anna’s Swedish heritage. A summer dress to get you noticed..wear this and you know people will comment…but it’s still a cotton summer dress..
Love ’em!!!

Ads I love x
Just because…
The Bottega Veneta campaign – I want to wear the clothes, be the girl and always live in sepia shades at magic hour.

The male version. No Ferrari required.

Miu Mui – The impressionistic colours..the 3/4 length sleeves, the gloves, the boxy silhouette, the composition..the elements in the composition – the expression on her face, that shade of green, the pink of the flowers, the reflection of the horse, the texture of the marble – have I said how much I love marble?
Lacoste – unconventional chic. It’s a surprise.
Those shoes and that wisteria.

We went on a Treasure Hunt x
(Photo courtesy of Daily Mail/Getty Images)
As we are away, a few trips coming up from memory lane..
I am a bone-fide Londoner, in truth I was born within the sound of Bow Bells inside the City mile, which officially makes me a Cockney, and once-upon-a-time this bestowed the privilege of being buried within the City Walls..if you visit City churchyards you’ll find them banked high either side of the path as they had to stack the bodies due to lack of space..but I digress: So I am a true City chick..but it wasn’t until a few years ago I learnt there are gas lights still in use in London. 1,600 to be precise, covering 200 miles…
To find them we went on a Treasure Hunt..for four lions, a nose, some lights…and a few knights..
Lions first. Good ol’Trafalgar Square.

The building you can just see with the clock? Is where the first telegraph from the Titanic arrived to say she was sinking..
Then the search for the elusive ‘Nose’..apparently to be found in Admiralty Arch, a stones throw away..
Can you see it? in the middle of the plain stone under the first dimpled stone..
A side view..Made of pink granite and 7 ft up, rumour has it that it was once the spare for Nelson’s Column in case his was broken on the way up…
Others think it’s here in honour of the Duke of Wellington – it’s at waist height for anyone on a horse and they say the soldiers rub it for luck as they ride through..
The truth? It was put up by the artist Rick Buckley in 1997 as part of a campaign against ‘Big Brother’ society…stop being nosey..
Through Admiralty Arch to The Mall. Lined with gas lights (the majority are around the Palace, Mayfair and Covent Garden).
With appropriate ‘Admiralty’ ships on the top!

Central London..and it’s like being in the countryside.
All the way down to the Palace.

The beautiful lock on the gate…must have a story..
And more gas lights – six Gas Lighters work the stretch around Buckingham Palace.
Then Charlie spotted a badger (as you do) and wanted to ask him if the Queen was in and if he was invited for tea..The badger turned out to be an soldier who had done sentry duty himself at the Palace and was a trove of knowledge. Not enough guards he said. She was away and unfortunately unavailable.
This is the better picture of said Badger. But I did debate about whether to post it or not – the anatomically correct part of said Badger was purely unintentional…although his girlfriend seems perfectly happy..
So Charlie then asked a Policeman! He explained that her standard – looking like one of his badges – had to be flying if she was home..
Charlie was a bit disappointed. But we promised to come back another day..maybe next weekend for the rehearsal of Trooping of the Colour..just as good as the real thing, but much less crowded. We then got the train home from Victoria.
A simple day in London. But a lovely one.

Cushions with a touch of vintage..
Slipping in an extra post for the lovely Rubyfoot who was wondering what to do with her scarfs…and for the wonderful Lizzie at the vintage traveller who has just been given a beautiful scarf!
These pictures are from a project Anna and I did last summer when we were experimenting with vintage..there is an amazing stall in Portabello Market that just sells silk scarves, we trawled the rails to unearth the best to turn into cushions…when you see the beauty of some of the designs (the still life is one of my favourites) you appreciate they really are works of art and should be admired in their full glory.

It started with a spring clean…
I’ve had gremlins..or little fingers…logged on this morning to find no post. Gone like the dew in the morn except for the first paragraph in draft form and 2 comments! Great. So here it is again, sort of – and I apologise to anyone who got this ditty twice due to the re-publishing…
It started snowing again today…snowing. In London. In March April. It’s pathetic. But somewhere deep inside there is a feeling of spring coming – because I don’t know what else is making me want to clear out cupboards and fill up dustbin bags. Which would be rip roaringly good except I have come to the conclusion that I am probably the worst de-clutterer ever…take this morning..I attacked our ensuite with the firm intention of getting jewellery sorted into piles, old make up thrown out (read ‘give to daughter’) and detritus removed. I got as far as the jewellery…I have this pile of old earrings in a brass bowl..
They’ve become part of the furniture. I keep them for some sentimental reason or other because the majority are dangly earrings and I never wear dangly earrings..
Then I had this thought – what if I could change them? turn them into stud earrings? Surely worth a try..so I set off to the shops…
And then I couldn’t resist these.
And these just had my name written all over them…
Removed the dangly hook thing, added copious amounts of this..
E Voila!
Macabre jellyfish skeleton men on juju juice! Why do I love these so much?!
Got utterly carried away and added additional gemming – but these I WILL WEAR with a white shirt dress and wedges in the summer…which admittedly could be never..
The additional shape, the little pop of colour..makes all the difference.
Neon orange stud hoops! J’adore!
My alien babies! You look at them…and then look again..
Moral of the story? – Mess is obviously inspirational.
My tip of the day? – make sure the buggers are completely dry BEFORE you put them on…previously I never used to wear them…now I can never take them off..

Idylic Islington..
Another foray..if you ever want a posh place to trawl vintage then head to Islington. Ever want a delicious place to shop?…to eat?…to be? then Islington is your place…
Super cool idea for vintage jelly molds..
Seriously good vintage shops – and not just clothes.
Not quite so sure about stuffed fido..sometimes I think we love our pets toooo much.
The vintage clothes shops aren’t bad either.
Beautiful lace inside this shop – it was so cold, my camera seized otherwise there would be shots..
It is a really pretty part of London with lots of Georgian houses..it’s actually where my parents live..hello!
A shopper/browsers heaven.
And this ones awesome door handle..

And on the way home I spotted this violet…surely a sign spring IS on the way??..pretty please with a violet on top???!

The Cool Dude
The following pictures were taken over the Easter weekend..first my cool dude son, three year old Charlie…just because he is..
Who then went down with Chicken pox…or as he calls them chicken Pops!
Nice one son..
Flying eggs…just for laura! x

On Easter Sunday everyone had to decorate an egg – and race it!
The spotty one won!

Hidden Gem
A while ago I saw pictures of a posh haberdashery shop in Paris which reminded me of how my heart pounds with anticipation and my palms go sweaty every time I step into a VV Rouleaux shop…but this little treasure tucked deep inside Tooting’s covered market, if I am honest, produces exactly the same effect….
The whole area is an eclectic urban mix, with a big emphasis on food – you can discover the best curries in London here.
And much more.
Which is not to say it’s not edgy.
My little shop is in the Covered Market.
And some peach lace for lining the inside of dresses.
I can indulge with abandon…explore every creative whim…still go home with pennies in my pocket….having supported a local independent enterprise…huge big Brucie Bonus’s.
