Milktooth x

There are still things that science can’t explain, like why one pair of earrings is just so much more than another.

But it’s something that Ernestina and Mark Potts, from Milktooth understand.  Their jewellery is a celebration of the have more, buy less philosophy.  Built on an eclectic mix of vintage and own designs their philosophy is simple: embrace your own style, buy the things you love, feel amazing.  Add in the Zeitgeist of desire and it’s a heady mix.

The cherry on the proverbial are the sensible price points (£30-£60) and effortless cool which means this is a name hidden in plain view for those oh so difficult people to buy presents for.

That is, if you’re prepared to give them away….

Mi piace.

Undercut x

It’s been a presence for a while – these things are never new – travelling the undercurrents, a throwback from the eighties: I can remember my Aunt and Uncle’s cries of distress at seeing my cousins razor cut take all those years ago – long on top, buzz cut sides and back. So radical for a girl – it was wild.

Now the frisson is changing into something tangible, a stronger scent on the wind, like the start of spring it’s the smell of change.

Call it a reaction to Weinstein, a claiming of freedom or a rejection of labels, these cuts are a statement.

They say I’m doing this because I like it. End of story.

Colourscope x

If there’s a new trend coming it’s all about colour.

Which is not to say anything goes.

Because whilst colour is happy, joyous, exuberant and life affirming..

Get it wrong and it’s discordant, jarring and painful.

Good job nobody here got it wrong..

Snuggly does it..

I looked out the window this morning and just for a fraction of a second thought it was snowing, except it was the last of the leaves caught in a gust and spiralling downwards.  But it’s that sort of time now when evenings draw in early and the weather sits like a duvet over the house, dictating minimal movement. The plus side is the need for comfort – good food, hot drinks, roaring fires and of course, soft, encompassing textures, some of which you can take outside with you, a bit like taking your house out for the day…

Bring it on.

Needle and Thread x

The little black dress is due for a revival and, like the label Rixo, Needle and Thread is a reliable bet when it comes to punching above one’s weight in the world of competitive design stakes.

A visual cross between Self-Portrait and Armani, the label does only cater for one type of figure: big busted, look away now.

But the attention to detail (note the stars and the polka dots on the tulle, plus the beading on the shoulders) plus the price point – add a nought for most designer equivalents – means it deserves its place in the spotlight.

(They also offer similar dresses in blush, cream and white..perfect for the bride who wants something a little different..)

Rixo x-o-x-o

Christmas season maybe fast approaching but even the sighting of that behemoth shouldn’t turn all thoughts to party clothes.  Why? Because life needs to be lived and party clothes should be a reflection of every day.  Such is the philosophy of Henrietta Rix and Orlagh McClosky, the founders of fashion label Rixo.

Their vision was to create vintage-inspired pieces for the modern woman to wear with confident style and effortless grace.

For the quality of the material – silk,  the timeless nature of the clothes and the plus point of individuality,  the price point sits happy on the purse.

These pieces sing dressing up is for daytime, floor length can be casual and style always transcends season.

I, for one, am in.
