Which Length?
Culottes by Givenchy..long, strong and structured..but too much of a cropped trouser?
(Photo from Elle.com)
Or these (from ASOS) – the midi long, showing a bit more than just ankle..note the turn up.
Then there’s the short style..cut just below the knee in a looser style (these are by ASOS)
Or the structured short by Top Shop..
Ms. Beckham offers yet another alternative…the cropped, tapered fit..
I’m confused! Which one and why?
Laters, Kate x
nice black dress……….
The top pic? yep..can see it could look like a dress..but is a cunning pair of trousers! x
I feel like I am out of that fashion trend, I am so short that lenght would look very bad on me 😀
Hmmmm..but you wear skirts? Is there a difference??! xxx
In my opinion, there is difference, but hey I am just me, what do I know 😉
Lets have this conversation again in 6 months time and see where we both stand! xxx
okay 😀
Victoria Beckham is so flawlessly elegant that we should trust her fashion instinct ! xxxxx
I do like her tapered look – just think you might lose a bit of the culotte flare and become more cropped trouser? I think my favourites might be the second one down..although the Top Shop rank pretty high..maybe it has to be two pairs!! Arggghhhhh! xxx
The Culottes by Givenchy look so much more classy, Have a super Day 🙂
Top Shop minus 2 cm is always the safest length. It works even with those shoes. Don´t try those shoes and the Ms. Beckham or Asos length unless your name is Nadia Auermann.
Y’see I’m finding the top shop ones quite short already…comes down to that age old chestnut – you must try everything on! xxx
There’s a stunning picture of the Givenchy ones street style – I’ll find the link xxx
I don’t normally like cropped trousers of any length but the first one – the Givenchy – lovely! Might try, well not Givenchy!! But will look for similar – so thanks for opening my eyes 🙂 Good to wear different things occasionally x
I’ve been wondering whether it’s worth altering a pair of trousers I already have..but what’s interesting with these is the looseness over the hips as well..they do have a very specific shape..but I do think they’re wonderful!! xxx
I think that you need to go longer if you have short legs. The structure of the Givenchy pair is beautiful and would show off your rockin’ Valentino shoes nicely. I feel like a longer, flowy pair might be easier to wear. If you have long legs — show off those toned calves! (which i do have (toned calves), but my being short nixed that idea…..)
Is the appeal of the culotte – even the cropped trouser – the fact it elongates the leg from the ankle up..as if you’re growing out of your shoes?? Food for thought..the structured pairs seem wonderful for ritzy nights out..the looser better for every day? Maybe that’s part of the conundrum..trying to reduce it to one thing, when 2 are needed… xxx
I’m all for the VB version. Culottes are a great concept, but I prefer when they are identifiable as a culotte/short and not a skirt. There’s no real excitement or cleverness in the twist – “hey you thought it was a skirt, but it’s actually culottes”, but there is some excitement in a new trouser length as an excuse to get new trousers.
I also hated that skirt/trouser thing. If I wanted a skirt, I’d buy a skirt! But there’s definitely a definitive shape to these which puts them on the list of lust.. xxx
I’d love to try the second for the length and playful turn up and the third one cause I like wearing skirts just below the knee, so I guess I’d be safe with that one. xxx
I like the way she’s styled that second one with her little cropped biker jacket..so much more appealing than a cropped top! There are some things I will never wear again…! xxx
Been there, done that, won’t be doing it again! Love wide leg but they need to be to my shoe to lengthen me….
I just have this feeling they make your legs look like they’re out growing your trousers therefore the optical illusion is they’re longer!! Probably the first sign of madness..but I’m running with it! xxx
GORGEOUS!!!! Love this!
It’s effortless elegance..and I love that you can wear them with a sweatshirt and still look a million dollars! xxx
Not sure why but I love the Asos ones. That length seems springy and airy. Who can pass up Givenchy though?
The Givenchy ones are special..though super market shopping would be out! The barometer is swinging to an evening pair and a day time pair…he he! xxx
I can’t decide between two – the long one by Givenchy or the short one by ASOS. The way they flow makes them more elegant, but I guess whichever length I would choose depends on the top I’m wearing, and also how cold it is at that time of year!
It does appear to be such an easy outfit to pull together..sweatshirt or fluffy jumper..check..satin culottes..check..high heeled shoes..check..head out the door! xxx
Givenchy by far the nicest, and they seem like they’d make a satisfying noise too :- Then the Asos pair that follows but got to be careful they don’t like those weird hybrid flowing items Armani does sometimes–or maybe you like those. Me not so much) The others look too corporate American for me, especially Beckham. Like that boardroom lady who wanted to wear a summer dress but the men in the office might frown and she won’t get the promotion…know what I mean?
The Asos ones would worry me that they might go all parachute like in a strong breeze..I like the satin for evenings..but I want a sort of vintage mens trouser with pleats but in culottes for every day…too much to ask?! Beckham ones are too like bermudas for me..want the A-line shape..can see a long hunt for these babies.. xxx
You have the height so either length will look fab on you! I wish if I were (much) taller 😦 xxx
The longer ones do avoid hairy leg days…..!! xxx
I want them all and would then have to explain the subtle difference in each pair to everyone – esp. my hubby. I’m liking the Givenchy pair the most though…love the structure! Cortneybre…

Hehe – I like your thinking!! xxx
Love the Givenchy, design, material, and length, it gives the complete and elegant long line, the others shorten the figure.
It is a fabulous cut – I like the way they’ve given extra weight to the ends so they hold their structure..you know you’d always feel special in them.. xxx
I will definitely wear the last one!
I love the styling with the white blouse – classic – but for me, a little too close to shorts..want more va va boom!! xxx
I like the looser style cut just below the knee by ASOS.
Swaying towards the Top Shop satin pair..rather loving the more structured shape. What I really need to do is go and try a pair on with a pair of shoes I can walk in!…actually…one for highs, one for sneakers…naughty! but oh so nice! xxx
They all look good on the gorgeous models! I cannot imagine pulling the look off myself . . . .
We all said that about the mini….! xxx
I love the Givenchy pair but all of them will require some heels to pull off. My fear is that I would end up looking like an old lady from Florida in that shorter length. Perhaps a palazzo pant length, I’m not so sure about the ankle length though. Maybe with nude socks? (hee hee)
Hehe..posted a pic just for you today..and not a sock in sight!! xxx
I love the midi long but anything Victoria Beckham wears is pretty much gorgeous so I love those too 🙂
Midi long does seem the most flattering..time to bite the bullet… xxx
full length, definitely all the way to the ankle
They do look tres elegant! xxx
