High Times x

January to easily represents the bleak recognition of the aftermath: The twinkly lights are gone, the weather is foul and last months credit card bills are circling like starving carrion.

But the first signs of spring are out there – the first glimpse of snowdrops, the first hint of cotton clothing appearing on the high street.

H&M have some impressive staples to offer – on trend blouses, softly hanging silk shirts, high waisted tie trousers and easy wear long sleeved dresses…

It’s temptation – but it’s sensible temptation.

Arket x

Arket is the new concept child of H&M and translates to ‘a sheet of paper’.

One can only think this relates to blank, ie a change of direction.

It will cater for men, women, children and homewares, but there will be a conscious focus away from High Street principals of pile em high, sell em cheap, to sustainability, durability and quality, but with an eye on affordability.

It says it’s offering ‘Staples in varying weights’ – a concept to embrace.

And opens in the UK on 25 August.

One for the diary.

Labour of Love x

Looking back to last year, I think my kids have both grown a foot, if not 5.  It means a new summer wardrobe has become a necessity rather than a want, and whilst one of life’s delights is shopping for children’s clothes, it becomes a nightmare once they develop tastes of their own.  You like one thing..they like something else…that is inevitably for someone older..or tackier..

We’re trying a new approach this year.  I’ve set up a Pinterest board where we can select our choices and hopefully come up with the crossover clothes we both like.

So far it’s working..we’ve agreed on all of these. Which has slightly blown my mind.

And I’ve allowed a few exceptions to creep in. Normally this swimsuit would not make the cut..But I know Bella will make it work and she loves it. But I didn’t think she’d go for slides…

Or culotte shorts. How wrong was I? (All pics Pinterest)

My girl is growing up. Little sigh.
