Trip to the V&A..
It’s been the Easter holidays which can easily feel like tumbleweed…to inject some excitement we all went en famille to the Victoria and Albert museum which just so happens to be one of my most bestest, favourite, most edible places in the world..
Amazing glass chandelier. The queues were for the Bowie Exhibition. Not for us sadly.
The building is a gem. Incredible floors.
Lots of marble. Have I said how much I like marble?
Instead of Bowie we got these – special backpacks for children – all free – that take you on an adventure…this time we chose China..
The kids get a map to follow, an instruction book and different tasks to complete all beautifully set up in little separate bags inside the back pack.
They were happy. I was happy…When Anna and I can generate enough interest to be able to dye fabric to our own specifications we will be coming here for colour inspiration..and design.
Loved this print.
This a water dropper in the shape of a squirrel from 1662!
The repetition of the print without obvious repetition.
Stunning Mughul dress.

If I could choose a paper weight…those flecks of green..
isn’t she fabulous? That expression..those colours..
This is the courtyard in the centre where there are places to sit, get coffee – or paddle in the pool in the middle. Seriously.
Inside the Cafe – not my greatest photo, but you can just make out how incredible the wallpaper is. This cafe was the first museum restaurant in the world and was intended as a showpiece for modern design, craftsmanship and manufacturing. It is sublime.
The ceiling..I die.

It is one of the most beautiful places to have a latte in London..
The shop, though busy, is pretty awesome too…they have some super cool children’s toys..the above come as flat packed cardboard.
And this dollhouse..
Check out this downstairs room! I really think it was meant for me…
Laters, Kate x

love the prints 🙂
Fantastic post! Lovely pics. The bags for the kids sound brilliant.
I discovered the bags purely by chance when the kids weren’t with me..’Excuse me but where are the ladies?..and what are those??’ type thing..but it was a great discovery. I was in the British Museum the other week and I saw some kids with similar backpacks…I did initially try following them to ask..but then decided I looked like an insane woman ducking behind egyptian exhibits…and the internet was probably a better source of info…xxx
The pics are beautiful… Looks like you had a great time!
It is nice to feed the soul..good to be able to do it with the tribe in little interesting portions that can interest them as well. I swear there are still bits of this museum I have never even been to yet xxx
Regrettably, Media General News Service never had the budget to send me to London Fashion Week. (I’m lucky to make two trips to NYFW!) Now I would love to see the V & A as well as the city! Thank you for giving me a glimpse inside.
I think that was mighty short sighted of those tight fisted capitalists..don’t they know a girls got to live, dream, shop and drink?! xxxx
I envy you living in such a wonderful place. London. Wow. Seems as if when I was there I missed everything (waaaaaahhh!) well, not ALL of it. I saw Vanessa Redgrave perform. I went to the British Museum. I wandered outside of expensive shops, too intimidated to go in. I saw the Portrait Gallery. I shopped and then sent the suitcase I came with back with ALL my things via the next post. So my trip Europe I looked wonderful, thanks to London. But I missed the Victoria Albert somehow.
VERY nice little restaurant in the portrait gallery – you are actually on the same level as Nelsons Column – wey hey!. You obviously need to come back again… xxxx
It’s one of my favourite places..never grow tired of it….and those fabulous lights! Mmmm!
beautiful patterns and shades, thanks! I’ve been there while ago but strangely I don’t recall them.. maybe they were not in the section I was visiting 🙂
As someone who loves art history and architecture, it was really amazing to see all these exhibition pieces! Keep up the fantastic work 🙂
Thank you…went to an a.m.a.z.i.n.g. place yesterday..a house from 1724 set up as a living art exhibition…will clobber together a post about it soon! xxx
Excellent timing! I’m planning a visit to the Bowie exhibition shortly and have never been to the V&A… so, thank you for the sneak preview! Lovely pics! Looking forward…
lucky you going to Bowie! The other lovely cafe is the one at the Royal Academy of art..sounds like I am a specialist in coffee shops – ha! But I do love a beautiful setting. xxx
Love these images, always wonderful walking around in Kensington, and the V&A’s architecture is just stunning 🙂
LOVE the V&A, I remember going when I was about 10 and being totally astounded by all the creativity and beauty everywhere…And Oreintal art is one of my loves, the colours, the movement and themes and UGH ❤ xxx
Did you ever read Ballet Shoes by Noel Streatfield? I loved the fact they used the museum as their extended playroom..was always very jealous.. xxx
I started it but never finished it..wow that would be fabulous! xxx
Your photos are awesome! We might just have to cross the Channel this summer…hopefully this exhibit is still on for a while?
Muchos grazias! There is always something wonderful going on at the V&A.. xxx
