Move Over Darling..

elcee_knicker 9( From Down that little Lane)

I’m hosting Christmas this year so I’m hands to the grindstone already planning ahead (all the veggies are going to be cooked this week and as a new, radical never-done-in-this-house-before decision –  frozen in large throwaway aluminium tins – probably not ecologically sound but hey, I can assure you, mentally it’s a winner.)

But equally as important as the prospective banquet is preparing for the inevitable – that a large portion of Christmas will be spent in PJs in full view of visiting rellies.

And this is where the crux of the problem lies for me…I’m a big boobed girl and given the time I’ve been on the planet, I still haven’t found any chic nightwear that ticks both the elegant and the support boxes AND can ‘carry’ me through to loungewear/chats over the toaster with whoever happens to be in the kitchen/carol singers at the door/heading up a chimney..without having to wear a bra.

Despite the average UK size being 36D the sad fact is that Fashion (with a capital ‘F’) has ignored boobs for decades. From a ridiculous lack of anything over a cupsize D (how did women manage?) things have improved in the last ten years and more and more companies are appearing specifically catering for larger boobs in underwear and swimwear…and not surprisingly merchandise has been flying off the shelves.

Figleaves has a ridiculously great bra and swimwear DD+ section (although I’d still like to see them photographed on a truly wonderful, voluptuous model.  Is it too much to ask?) And it’s refreshing to see they have a separate nightwear section BUT the majority of what is on offer is based on CLOTHES SIZE rather than BRA SIZE which is about as much use as a chocolate teapot when you’re large in front with a small back.

The closest to the holy grail: the Lepel Georgina satin Cami with matching pajamas from Figleaves..but why only red? I don’t like red nightwear..where’s the soft shell pink? baby blue? or buttermilk cream??

I thought Bravissimo would be my knight in shining armour with their specifically bra sized nightwear…

But cotton elastane? In floral purple? How’s that ever going to satisfy my inner Marilyn? So can we please get up to speed with sleepwear? Pretty please? (with emphasis on the pretty?) I don’t want to be the forgotten whale stranded on the beach of  t-shirted non-elegance with my girls still getting lost under my armpits.

I want lush, sleek, lace, silk, soft muted pastel colours, satin, silk, ribbons, bows, frills, teddies, negligees, robes, frou frou and iconic boudoir beauty. It can be done….

Just like a capsule day wardrobe I want mix ‘n’ match options…

IMG_0049The foundation stone of everything would be a supportive camisole..and if it could do up at the front, all the better.

..teamed with a wanton pair of French knickers..

merry-widow-pyjamas

..Then loose, vintage style Matching Pj’s (preferably with monogram and piping)..

three-pieces-silk_camisole

..and a short throw to balance things out and offer a bit of modesty when needed  (I have no wish to to give the postman a heart attack)..

Surely this can’t be too much to lust for and should really be available on the High Street?…

The simple truth is if we want curves to be celebrated isn’t it about time we gave them a few more optimal eye-popping options in the bedroom?

That’s funny, I have just posted an image of a model who’s a little bit curvy (and that’s pretty rare in fashion !), and I had no idea that you called some of this underwear “French knickers” ! The truth is that I love every item pictured here ! Can’t wait to see what will be your Xmas choice ! xxxx

How strange! I have no idea where they got the name ‘French knickers’ from..particularly as everything is really a ‘pant’ over here…maybe someone else will know…

I do love a bit of ribbon and frill – and the truth of it is that you often can’t wear underwear with it on because of VPL and the rest..so much nicer to have it on some decadent, luscious nightwear! xxx

Over the shoulder boulder holders are what you need!!!! The hell that is Primark has a t shirt featuring 2 large strategically placed Xmas puddings…..so if all else fails?!!! Xx

I am a 38FF. I feel your pain. Even large sized stuff never leaves enough boob space not to be obscene!

I’m a 32G…nightmare. I want clothes that compliment and don’t necessarily hide – we’re talking nightwear here – but that don’t scream look at these massive bazzoomers every time I walk into a room..I want people to think ‘wow’ not ‘someones been in the cookie jar’ just because the girls have escaped their moorings..

OH -how I love this post! I am hosting my husbands family this year and I will most likely, and sadly be wearing a Genie bra under my pj’s for the sake of the men. Dang it.

Hoho! I’d be happier to persuade someone else to take it on! A Company like Bravissimo must have the clientele..we’re so desperate we take anything..but if they gave us what we really wanted…..

You make a resounding good case. You might have to design it yourself but you’d have women queuing round the block. This time next year, Rodney…

When I was breastfeeding I couldn’t understand why maternity bras weren’t maternity camisoles to cover up the bits you really didn’t want people to see…at least now I see there are some out in the market..I’m hoping it’s going to be the same with this…it just makes sense x

Unfortunately not being of the endowed variety I can’t relate to your plight. My concerns are around finding bras that are not padded. They do not exist. We must all be armoured up in order to look pretty. What happened to little slivers of lace so little boobs’ can look pretty in their littleness. Even Elle Mc Pherson has succumbed to bras that stand up on their own!

      • jackiemallon

You are right. That’s where Elle Mc P gets all her ideas anyway. As she’s deserted me, I’ll go straight to the source. Divine whisps of heaven, here i come! x

I remember years ago watching a Dragons Den where someone was trying to present for their company making larger bra sizes..and they had the cheek to say there wasn’t a market..well I think that’s been proved wrong..all we need now is lustful, dreamlike nightwear…….not much to ask! xxx

I, too, hear you – I’m a regular figleaves DD + shopper and they do manage decent bra sized swimwear these days so absolutely why not nightwear?! As for the getting ahead for X-mas, I’ve already made and frozen rum sauce, brandy butter, stuffing and gravy…..hadn’t thought of doing the vegetables…..yet 😉

I also need longer sleeves and longer pants for pjs. I have the problem of being tall but a size 6-8au and everything in these sizes is made for petit (shorter) women. And finding an 8d bra in Australia is near impossible. I have noticed the sexy lingerie websites are catering for the more curvaceous woman.

I can feel your pain. It is not really difficult to find chic nightwear and dresses for girls with plus size boobs. Have you ever tried “City Chic Online” store. I suggest you to visit it. May be you can find some thing interesting over there!

  9. Ruth

Oh, yes! Showing the curves we want to be seen, keeping hidden the parts we’re not to too keen on and especially they must be warm!
Let me know what you’ve found, Kate!

I have one possible solution arriving in the post this week..keep fingers crossed! But I’m also learning the pull of the vintage bed jacket..they were invented for a reason!! Big love xxxxxx

I know exactly how you feel. Love the sexy lingerie, but the cute sexy ones always look better in smaller sizes. I’m bigger on top, I always have to buy dresses in a 10-14 and then have them altered to fit my size 6-8 middle! Love all your lingeries pics! Let me know if you find the right one to help out the sisters with boobs!
