China Town x
On Saturday I took the kids plus Bella’s bestie to explore the delights of China Town in London. Charlie, freed from the constraints of school uniform opted for a cunning combination of shorts over jogging trousers..
Accessorised with a pink umbrella..
That was until he spotted this tiger hat..
Not that he didn’t fit in..the place was buzzing..
And tigers were a trend..
It’s not long till Chinese New Year and all the shops were red, vibrant and humming with life and such a variety of whacky and wonderful stuff that blew the kids minds. They spent their pocket money on dresses, silk pajamas, paper dragons, fortune cookies and fans..
Checking out the weird and grotesque in the restaurant windows.
Charlie, being Charlie..as only Charlie can be..with his fan..
We looked at the Chinese supermarkets..so worth a wander..
Before stopping for a conventional drink and a bite to eat. Hot chocolate with cheese and onion crisps anyone??
Charlie was more interested in doing peacock impressions..
Looking at our purchases to offer an unsuspecting Daddy..frogspawn juice was a bit of a fav..
And how have we survived this long without a can of Kickapoo?…
The girls came back to change into their dresses and choreograph a fan dance..
Charlie wasn’t going to be outdone..
A slug of kickapoo later..
And it was sword dancing!

Absolutely delightful! I love the vibrant colours!
You know you’re in London..but you’re definitely looking at it through a kaleidoscope of colour, noise and smells! xxx
That must have been a wonderful trip. And what a great photo report. Thanks for that.
It’s a fab place to visit..and from here you can go onto Soho..or walk the other way and it’s Covent Garden.. xxx
Your Charlie is a star! Any kid confident enough to wear what he wants and clown around in a silly hat will win hearts and conquer the world. And I do miss Chinatown – did not realize this existed in London.
He’s like teflon when it comes to clothes..I so hope he keeps it forever and ever..otherwise these photos are going to be very embarrassing for him one day! China Town in London is just between Leicester Square and Soho in central London..these kids are urbanites so they need to know where all the gems are..and it’s a joy showing them.. xxx
It is a mother’s right – even obligation – to embarrass her offspring. 🙂
Charlie’s antics is a perfect antidote for a gloomy Monday morning! He is so original and adorable. And I love the china dresses on Bella & her BBF too XXX
I can honestly say the hat has not come off..until school started again! The kids all have a ‘Chinese’ day at school on friday hence the purchases..I hope the weather gets a bit warmer! xxx
Charlie is obviously the son of a fashion maven . . . 😉
Amazing photos that really capture the fun of the day! What lucky kids they are!
I really believe we live on the edge of one of the best cities in the world..and I want to show them everything! In contrast..on Sunday we went to see friends in the country and they spent the day chasing chickens! xxx
Charlie is an absolute legend. He reminds me of many pictures I have seen of Mr O as a child. I am warning you that the Japanese Manga character teenage years are yet to come followed by several years in the early 20s of pretending to be Noel Fielding…
He has ALOT to live up to!! And poor blighter..I’ll always be there with my camera! But I do love the eccentricity and ease he has..and I’m very glad it can last beyond childhood! xxx
I am another of Charlie’s fans !!! .fab day out…love China Town
It reminded me that they’re all probably of an age where places like Camden Market (no doubt much changed since my day) will seem like a wonder world…can’t wait! xxx
Ahhhhh what a little rock star your Charlie is — love, love, love the hambone pictures! Brilliant… I too love Chinatown – I shall have to go in search of some Kickapoo joy juice next time! Not too sure about the frogspawn, though. 🙂
Such a fun, diverse, eccentric place..just brilliant to introduce kids to it – you see it all again through their eyes xxx
Their Chinese clothes are so beautiful. I loved your photographs of the kawaii fashion girls, it’s not very big here in Manchester’s China town. Charlie knows how to work a fan! Kick a poo is my favourite thing to do, you know.
Great spot on the Kawaii girls – had no idea that’s what their name was..but they were definitely a group together. I find kick a poo releases a lot of built up tension.. xxx
Kids are so cute!
It’s seeing their joy and amazement that’s so special xxx
Bella is gorgeous and Charlie is hilarious! Thanks for sharing.
Charlie’s style is THE BEST!!! Looks like a fantastic day out.
What wonderful children you have 🙂 xx
He definitely has a character all of is very own! It is one of life’s joys watching them grow.. xxx
