Objet D’art Lesson..
The effervescent Matisse Exhibition now showing in New York is a joy of art expressed in it’s purest form – as is this photo of Matisse’s studio: A glimpse behind the canvas and a spotlight on those moments of pure creativity where the trains of thought are literally turned into living, breathing, pale-pink, illuminated flesh..
What particularly fascinates me is that light..a visual delight in spontaneity and plaster of paris with a touch of Modigliani thrown in…My mother’s given me an old brass lantern light that’s missing it’s glass to transform for her…I’m now thinking she might get more than she bargained for!
Laters, Kate x

Beautiful. Your lamp projects reminds of something I saw this week: This lamp (bottom right corner) by the wonderfull Tara Lilly who won the Global Talent Search contest this week, an amazing thing among us illustrators. Love her work…hope you entered?? xxx
Oh, thanks Kate. But no, I am still far away from that league. I met her during an on-line course last spring where I learnt a lot. Also how much I still have to learn.
I am getting to the FIT Exposed: A History of Lingerie, after work today. I’ll have to hit the MoMa during the week – less crowds. XO
Muchos inspiration..you’ll be in seventh heaven! xxx
The Lingerie exhibit was a bust…poorly curated. The Dance & Fashion Exhibition – fantastic!
Not a fan of Matisse but, yes, some of these abstracts would be great for your lamp!
Take another look at that light with the bird, the flowers and the people and tell me you don’t love it?! xxx
Yes, I do find the cut outs inspiring but more as ”decoration” rather than ”art”. I see infinite possibilities in decorative applications, but no, I’m not intellectually stimulated. Your lamp will look great though! xxx
I’m a huge fan of Matisse–few artists can match his work for exuberance and, as you say, joy.
I love his sense of colour..and the cut outs show that beauty in form can be something incredibly simple, it’s the way it fills the space..sigh! xxx
Did you see the Matisse at the Tate? A brilliant exhibit, beautifully curated and inspiring, a treatb to see all the photos of his work space http://covetandinspire.com/2014/04/26/unmissable/
It was a brilliant exhibit. Loved seeing his work space and all the people working together for him..just like a brain at work.. xxx
Gorgeous abd innovative!
Now it only needs to be made…hmmmmmmmm xxx
Good idea!
I’ll be heading to this this week. Can’t wait. I’ve always adored Matisse XO!
It’s a great example of when everything is distilled right down to it’s barest bones, it’s still brilliant xxx
