Secrets..
Do you know postsecret.com? It’s an online community art project where anyone can anonymously send in a postcard with a secret written on one side…which is then uploaded in all it’s gory glory. From the confessions of a disco queen to the thwarted angst of true love, each one reminds me of the Ernest Hemingway six-word novel:

The perfect illustration of how small things can have a big impact: These are subtly crafted, often poignant bubbles of true and honest humanity released onto the cyber-ether and I love them..

Is it the diary aspect? Like is is somehow prying? For me it appeals a) because it is anonymous b) the creative level c) the human level..somehow life these days makes everything so generalised and we forget we are all individuals with individual needs and concerns…I wish I could walk around a gallery of them xxx

I’m a great believer in letting things out. We had a really bad year a few years back – a lot of tragedy – and it coincided with friends having a bad time too, so we did a ritual burning of thoughts…it was cathartic if nothing else! xxx

It’s almost better than a diary in the sense that the contributors have chosen to send in a postcard..and it impresses me the care they’ve taken to express their inner most thoughts. I wonder how you’d feel if you sent one in and it didn’t get published… xxx

When I first started to read the post, I almost stopped at Hemingway’s Novel — a shot of pain. I thought, “I don’t want to see other peoples angst.” Then I kept going and realized – “Yes, I do.” Sometimes we need to see that other people have secrets or pain, too.
